EU MRLs for Pirimiphos Methyl on Pulses

GPC

Dear members, Coceral has raised an issue in relation to EU Maximum Residue Level (MRL) of pirimiphos-methyl on pulses (beans, lentils, and peas). We would like to know if you are experiencing any difficulties in complying with these MRLs in the Pulses Sector before deciding if action should be taken at EU level.

As you know, pirimiphos-methyl is a storage insecticide and its EU MRLs were amended in 2016.

No MRLs were adopted below 0.5 mg/kg for cereals and oilseeds due to recognition of cross-contamination risks; MRLs for pulses were lowered from 0.05 mg/kg to 0.01 mg/kg.

Recent monitoring data from one Member State shows that this MRL is difficult to comply with due to cross-contamination.
